. . . the process or act of enlarging existing facilities or operations of enterprises either in place or at new locations. Expanding at a new location means a site selection project is part of the enterprise development process. The site chosen may have been acquired in the past or it may be a selection made as part of an enterprise development project—such projects include business expansions and industrial expansions.

Whether an expansion project is a search for a new location, real estate site, or available space or, say, a building the savvy business decision maker who makes the choice is guided by selection criteria. Completed projects are started up simply as expansions.
